REIKI
In-person Reiki sessions in Montclair, NJ.
Reiki is a Japanese energy-based practice developed by Mikao Usui in Japan in the early 1920s. The five principles of Reiki are: for today, let go of anger, let go of worry, be grateful, do your work honestly, and be kind to others and to yourself. The practice is built on a simple idea from Japanese tradition: a life energy, ki, flows through every person. When you’re under prolonged stress, through overwork, grief, or caregiving, that flow can become uneven. Practitioners often describe this as energy that’s “stuck.” You may experience it as tension you can’t shake, exhaustion that sleep doesn’t fix, or a sense of being disconnected from yourself.
As energy moves, the tradition understands that areas of stagnation begin to loosen. Clients sometimes experience this physically, as warmth, tingling, or muscles relaxing. It can also be experienced as an emotional release. A feeling of lightness is common after a session.
Many of the people I work with are mothers and working professionals. They spend their days with every minute accounted for and usually attending to others' needs. A Reiki session is an hour where all that is asked of you is to be still and grounded in the moment. Nothing is forced and you don't need to believe in Reiki - you only need to be willing to rest and see what shifts.
Reiki Overview
During a Reiki session, I place my hands lightly on or just above a person’s body to support relaxation and a sense of balance. My role is to serve as a conduit for universal energy - Reiki teaching holds that your body draws the energy it needs, where it needs it. I don’t direct it toward a particular problem or decide what should shift. I place my hands in a sequence of positions, typically over the head, torso, and areas that hold tension. I may stay longer in places that feel like they need more time, which I often notice as a sense of pull or what I see as changes in color and light around a person and their aura during a Reiki session.
What to Expect
I am certified as a Reiki Level II practitioner in the Usui Reiki Natural System of Healing, the traditional lineage founded by Mikao Usui in Japan in the early 1900s. I received my Reiki I and Reiki II attunements and certifications under the guidance of JP (Jean-Philippe) of Unstruck Sound NYC, a Reiki Master Teacher based in New York City.
This training emphasizes a trauma-informed, empowerment-based approach to energy work, blending classical Reiki technique with intuitive practice, which directly informs how I hold space for clients during sessions.
